Vitreous Enamel is essentially glass that has been fused to the metal beneath it. Several fine layers of enamel were applied and repeatedly fired to 1400° F to achieve the beautiful finish you see here. While it is very durable, it's important that you are careful with your enamel items, so that they don't fall onto hard surfaces or get crushed in your luggage.
